Bahrain Participation in the 8th Arab Energy Conference
His Excellency the Minister of State and Chairman of the National Oil & Gas Authority, Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, presided over Bahrain’s delegation to the 8th Arab Energy Conference which was held in the Jordanian Capital,Amman, from 14th to 17th May 2006, under the Royal patronage of His Majesty King Abdulla II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The conference was attended by Arab ministers of petroleum, members of OAPEC, professionals, heads of energy related regional and international organizations, lecturers and experts.
H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain Mirza delivered Bahrain’s speech at the first session of the conference. He stressed the importance of benefiting from participation in international meetings and of coordinating Arab efforts and activities on energy and sustainable development. Dr. Mirza highlighted the ongoing development in the oil and gas sector in Bahrain upon the establishment of the National Oil & Gas Authority. He referred to the strategic projects in the energy sector, which aim at optimally utilizing oil and gas and at increasing production and conserving the Kingdom’s reserves. Dr. Mirza also presided over the first technical session, which was held under the theme of “Energy Sources in the Arab Countries and the World”.
Sixteen research papers were presented and discussed in four sessions under the titles of Energy Resources in the Arab Countries and the World; downstream industries in the Arab countries and the world, energy consumption and conservation, and institutional developments in world energy markets. Additionally, regional research papers by OAPEC members were also discussed, and covered oil and energy historical development and future perspectives. These papers are main topics of the conference and form a reliable source of information for energy researchers and observers. They are also taken by the General Secretariat as the first reference for its databank, studies and reports. During His Excellency’s Participation in the 8th Arab Energy Conferance, the Minister met His Majesty King Abdulla II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Minister conveyed to His Majecty the best regards of His Majesty King Hamed bin Isa AL-Khalifa the King of Bahrain.
