HE Dr. Mirza and Dr. Ray R. Irani review joint venture company Tatweer Petroleum’s 2010 performance and plans for 2011.
MANAMA, March 6, 2011 – His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy of Kingdom of Bahrain, met with Dr. Ray R. Irani, Chairman and CEO of Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: OXY), to review Tatweer Petroleum’s 2010 performance and continued production improvement plans for the year ahead.
Tatweer Petroleum, a joint venture operating company between NOGA Holding, Mubadala Development Company from United Arab Emirates and Oxy, was formed in December 2009 to pursue the Development and Growth of the Bahrain Field in order to meet Bahrain’s growing energy needs.
During 2010, oil production was increased to be 40,000 barrels per day and gas production capacity increased to be 1.7 billion standard cubic feet per day through new drilling techniques and by implementing improved Oil Recovery (IOR) programs.
Development will continue throughout 2011 with plans to drill 130 new wells and implementing water flooding and steam injection IOR programs. Over the course of this year both oil production gas production capacity, are expected to increase in the Bahrain Field.
The Bahrain Field operations and Tatweer Petroleum development activities remain unaffected by current conditions in Bahrain. "There is no change in production or operational plans in Bahrain, everything remains normal in the oil and gas sector," said a Tatweer spokesman. “The revitalization of one of the longest-producing oil fields in the world is one of the cornerstones for fueling the economic diversification plans set by the leadership in Bahrain and will aid in bringing added prosperity and opportunity to the whole nation. Tatweer’s implementation of the Master Development Plan is progressing ahead of schedule with excellent results.”
"We are very pleased with Tatweer Petroleum’s first year performance. There have been significant achievements by the company in improving production from the Bahrain Field,” said Dr. Ray R. Irani. The further development of this historic field will benefit Bahrain in several important ways. Tatweer’s operations and increased development activities create new jobs, generate new income and open opportunities for further production."
