Bahrain Joins World Bank Zero Routine Flaring Initiative

The Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) joined the Zero Routine Flaring countries in the world among oil-producers during oil and gas extraction process burning operations. This proved the country’s commitment to contribute and cooperate with the international community in reducing greenhouse gases, which was confirmed at the Climate Change Conference in Paris held from November 30 to December 12, 2015.

Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza said the accomplishment authenticated the clever directives of the wise leadership and the keenness of the country’s esteemed government to abide by international legislation and decisions in this area. NOGA routinely evaluates the performance of oil companies in Bahrain and takes appropriate action in the service of the society and environmental preservation. The Minister added that the Kingdom had consolidated its position in the world map as one of the leading Zero Routine (Gas) Flaring countries, which would work as an incentive for international companies to build strategic partnerships with national oil companies.

NOGA signed an agreement on May 2, 2016 announcing Bahrain’s consent to join the ‘Zero Routine Flaring by 2030’ global initiative launched by World Bank, based on the Cabinet Decision No. (09-2357). The authority has been taking necessary actions in its commitment to contribute to global efforts to promote environment friendly actions, and being a leader in creating wide interest the in area, particularly among oil-producing countries.
