Dr. Mirza Congratulates Dr. Jawahery on IFA Presidency

Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza congratulated Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, President of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) on the occasion of being appointed President of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA).

The Minister expressed his delight at Dr. Jawahery’s winning such a high global position. He said it was a platform to prove the competence of the people of the Kingdom, and in particular the leaders of major institutions to efficiently manage international bodies. He called it a well-deserved responsibility and praising the capability and immense experience of Dr. Jawahery, proved by the great success of GPIC management in raising the company to the ranks of major global industrial companies. He also pointed out Dr. Jawahery’s outstanding leadership of the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA).

H.E. Dr. Mirza said that Dr. Jawahery had won the high international position not only in appreciation of his career in the petrochemical and fertilizer industry but also in recognition of his excellence in the field of institutional work and community service. H.E. Dr. Mirza said that his achievements during the past years were marked by merit and creativity, which confirmed his devotion to work and his continued quest to highlight the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain regionally and globally.

The Minister wished Dr. Jawahery every success for his IFA tenure, pointing out that he had the ability and divine blessings to realise goals and to match the trust placed on him.

Dr. Jawahery thanked the Minister for his wishes and expressed gratitude for the warm reception, appreciation and for the words of praise and encouragement during the interview. He said that, without the reassurance of officials and the wise leadership, it would not have been easy to win the top post of such specialized institution. He said that it was the trust and confidence of the leadership in him that made it possible for him to elevate the name of the dear country.

Dr. Jawahery thanked the wise leadership for the boundless support given to Bahraini citizens and for providing training opportunities to Bahrainis to realise their ambitions and rise to the highest ranks. He thanked the Minister for his keenness to follow-up the company's affairs and for his tireless work in the development of the vital and strategic industry.

The Paris-based global fertiliser association had last week elected Dr. Jawahery its President during the IFA Annual Conference in the Turkish city of Istanbul, making him the first Arab national to hold the high international position in 30 years. He is also the first person to simultaneously be the Chairman of both IFA and the Arab Fertilizer Association.

The International Federation of fertilizers is one of the largest fertilizer unions with a membership of more than 540 members from various countries from around the world, and is managed by board members belonging to various countries. Its goals include events to promote production and optimal use of plant nutrients in order to maintain increased rates of global agricultural production in a continuous and orderly manner as well as improve the operating environment for the manufacture of fertilizers under the freedom of economic activity and fair trade. The IFA meets on an annual basis with the participation of major petrochemical companies and related fertilizer institutions.
