NOGA Participates in the 21st World Petroleum Congress

Eng. Jassim Isa Al Shirawi, General Manager of Oil and Gas Affairs, and Ezz Ahmed Al-Mannai, Head of Oil Policies at the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), attended the 21st World Petroleum Congress (WPC), under the theme “Responsibly Energizing a Growing World,” which was held in the Russian Capital, Moscow, from June 15-19, 2014.

The WPC contained a number of discussion and dialogue sessions in the field of energy management. Several papers were presented during the WPC, addressing the areas of oil and gas exploration and production, refining operations, promotion of investment in energy sources, natural gas transport and marketing, and sustainable management in the field of energy.

The World Petroleum Congress is one of the largest global conferences specializing in the field of oil and gas, with over 65 member countries responsible for over 95% of the global petroleum and natural gas production and consumption. This year, the WPC was attended by more than five thousand participants experts in the energy sector.

The World Petroleum Exhibition accompanying the Congress broke a new record, with 50,000 m2 exhibition area. It attracted more than 600 international oil and gas companies, representing a number of oil and gas producing countries, including Saudi Arabia, represented by Aramco, one of the formal sponsors, along with Qatar, Kuwait and Algeria, and a number of international companies, so as to promote their activities and services in this area.

The Exhibition included several sections and themes which represent the aspiration of the World Petroleum Council to encourage responsible utilization of energy resources, to engage the youth in active international cooperation, to find and showcase the best practices of corporate social responsibility in the energy sector.

The World Petroleum Council was established in 1933 with the intent to ensure the flow of sustainable oil supplies, promote efficient utilization of oil, reinforce social responsibility in terms of consolidating a sound culture of oil uses, search for solutions to the energy challenges in terms of supply and environmental challenges, and to exchange expertise and knowledge in the field of oil and energy.

Bahrain established a national committee in 2011, headed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharian, NOGA’s Secretary-General, to coordinate with the World Petroleum Council for the exchange of ideas, insights and international expertise.

The World Petroleum Congress, which is held every three years, intends to catalyze and facilitate dialogue among oil and gas producing countries. The 20th edition of the World Petroleum Congress was held in December 2011

in Qatar and the next edition will be held in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, in 2017.
