Minister of Energy Meets UNDP Delegation on Energy Centre
Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza met on Tuesday, November 1, a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and feasibility study team of the proposed National Energy Centre project to be set up in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Minister praised the development programmes undertaken by the UNDP in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the economic, social, energy and environment sectors. Dr Mirza lauded the cooperation between UNDP and the National Oil and gas Authority (NOGA) in various projects.
The technical team made a special presentation of the draft Energy Centre, which will be implemented by NOGA in cooperation with the UNDP. Engineer Hussain J. Makki from the NOGA and engineer Jehan Al Murbati from the UNDP prepared the presentation.
The meeting also reviewed the results of the study.
Dr. Mirza and former UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Sayed Aqa had signed a cooperation document in June 2010 to prepare a potentiality and feasibility study for establishing an Energy Conservation and Planning Centre in Bahrain, the first of its kind in the Gulf region. According to the Preparatory Assistance (PA) agreement, UNDP experts provide technical assistance to NOGA in the Energy Conservation potentiality study.
Once set up, the centre would plan the consumption of all forms of energy from the source of production to the end users.
